How the number is picked
Every number in your range gets one slice of the wheel, so every number has exactly the same chance. When you press Spin, your browser’s secure random number generator picks a slice, and the wheel is then steered to land on it. The spin is how you watch the result arrive; it never changes which number wins. Here’s exactly how the pick works, including a live fairness test.
Ideas for different jobs
- Calling numbers one at a time. Set 1 to 75 (or 1 to 90) and turn on No repeats. Each called number comes off the wheel, the Results tab lists every number called in order, andPut picked numbers back starts a new game.
- Ticket numbers. For tickets 1 to 500, spin once per prize with No repeats on so no ticket wins twice. If you’re giving prizes in order and want a winner log, the raffle winner picker is built for that.
- Dice for games. 1 to 6 is a standard die, 1 to 20 a twenty-sided one. Leave No repeats off so every roll can land on any face.
- Taking turns. Number the people in a room, set the range to match, and spin with No repeats on to decide who goes next.
- A quick classroom pick. Spin a number from 1 to 30 to choose a student by register number, or a page of a book to read from.
Step (interval) and numbers to leave out
Open Step (interval) and leave out to set the gap between numbers or leave numbers out. From 2 to 100 with a step of 2 puts only even numbers on the wheel; from 0 to 1,000 with a step of 50 gives round fifties. Under Leave out, type single numbers and ranges separated by commas, like 13, 20-25. Negative ranges work too:-5--1. The wheel updates as you type.
Save or share a range
The address bar always carries your current range, and Copy link to this range copies it for you. A link like /random-number/?max=6 opens the page ready to roll a die. Your range, picked numbers, and settings are also remembered in this browser.
Limits
- Up to 1,000 numbers on the wheel, one slice each. Any whole numbers from −1,000,000,000 to1,000,000,000 work, so 1,000,000 to 1,000,999 is fine; for a wider range, use a bigger step.
- One number per spin. For several, turn on No repeats and spin again, then copy them from the Results tab.
- No decimals. For a number between 0 and 1 to two decimal places, spin from 0 to 100 and divide by 100.
- It’s a fair picker for everyday use, not a certified system for regulated lotteries or gambling.
